Complications of total hip arthroplasty are common and the radiologist needs to be aware of them in the assessment of radiographs of total hip replacements. Complications are many and can occur at various time intervals following the initial surgery:

Correct acetabular component position is a critical part of a successful total hip arthroplasty (THA). Improper acetabular orientation leads to an increased dislocation rate, accelerated bearing surface wear, limited range of motion, and higher revision rates.

One of the major findings in the radiographic study of this patient included the eccentric positioning of the femoral stem in the acetabular cup in the left hip implant (Fig. 2A).
