Saphira (pronounced "suh-FEAR-uh"), also known as Saphira II, Flametongue by the Urgals, as well as Bjartskular (meaning "Brightscales" in the Ancient Language) by the elves, was the only female dragon known to exist during the time of Eragon II, aside from Eldunarí.

Eragon and Saphira duel in the skies with Durza. They eventually kill him, but Saphira is heavily injured. Eragon uses magic to heal her before passing out. The following morning, Eragon awakes with Murtagh and a fully healed Saphira. They catch up with Arya, who is on her way to Ellesméra to lead the elves in the coming war against Galbatorix.

Saphira is Eragon's dragon from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. She is the last female dragon in Alagaësia outside of the Eldunari kept by Galbatorix. She is the daughter of a Rider's dragon named Iormungr and a wild female dragon named Vervada and is a descendent of Belgabad, the largest dragon of his time.

Fifteen-year-old Eragon believes that he is merely a poor farm boy—until his destiny as a Dragon Rider is revealed.

Saphira Brightscales (Bjartskular in the Ancient Language) was a female blue dragon bound to Eragon. Saphira is the main dragon protagonist in the Inheritance series. Eragon found her egg in the Spine while hunting a deer after it was transported there by Arya, the elf princess, to keep her safe from Galbatorix's forces.
