Reflexive thematic analysis is a methodological approach within qualitative research that emphasizes the role of researcher self-awareness and critical reflection throughout the analysis process.

TA is a flexible analytical method that enables the researcher to construct themes—meaning-based patterns— to report their interpretation of a qualitative data set.

What is reflexive thematic analysis? We call our approach ‘reflexive TA’ and it differs from most other approaches in terms of both underlying philosophy and procedures for theme development. We initially outlined our approach in a 2006 paper Using thematic analysis in psychology.
