DOT 5.1 can be used in cars with DOT 3 and DOT 4 with out issue and it can be mixed together with 3 and 4. This is a motorcycle site but it is 100% interchangeable with autos ..info wise.

2002年12月14日 · DOT 5 is silicone. Brake fluids all the way back as-far-as I can remember, are synthetic. I have noticed in the past 10 years that some bottles/brands of brake fluid mention in large letters, "SYNTHETIC" as though this is something new or better. It's marketing only! I don't think that I have ever used anything other than DOT 3 brake fluid.

Likewise a fluid can greatly exceed 5.1 boiling temps but due to viscosity above 900cSt it will only qualify as a DOT3/4 or if between 1500 and 1800 as a straight DOT4.

2009年1月9日 · The boiling point of the resultant mix in this case will be somewhere between the boiling point of the lowest boiling point fluid and the highest boiling point fluid. It is perfectly fine to use DOT4 where DOT3 is specified, but not the other way around. That's why Valvoline has brake fluid container labeled as DOT3 & DOT4 brake fluid.
