Roger Corman's H.P. The Haunted Palace starring Vincent Price, Debra Paget and Lon Chaney Jr opened its cursed doors for US cinemagoers on 28 August 1963 before going on general release. While it was publicised as another Edgar Allan Poe adaptation it was in fact inspired by HP Lovecraft’s 1941 short story The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.
