The Black Palm Cockatoo is known to use tree branches as tools. Males have been observed removing a thick branch from a live tree to perform drumming displays, then dismantling it into strips after. The species uses its tongue to hold items against the top mandible of the beak, while the lower mandible works to break apart branches and open nuts.
