New York City’s oldest standing bridge, the High Bridge opened in June of 1848 as part of the 41-mile Old Croton Aqueduct. At the time, the bridge was deemed an engineering marvel, enabling the delivery of clean water to NYC, catalyzing the city’s development and expansion!
