Jimi Hendrix returned to New York's Record Plant Studios on March 24, 1970 where he recorded "Bleeding Heart" with Billy Cox and a young drummer, Steve Angel. Additional overdubs were later added at Electric Lady Studios, with Mitch Mitchell replacing Angel's original percussion. The track eventually saw release on the 1972 WAR HEROES compilation.
