Night time can be a difficult time, as some kids may have experienced trauma at night and sleeping in a strangers home can be very scary. By offering choices and a variety of options, we can help provide felt safety and control for the kids in our care. Plus, some lights can be a welcome distraction for the brain and something for kids to watch and focus their mind on as they try to sleep or wake up in the middle of the night

Foster parents are humans! You will never be perfect. Here’s an example of how to handle a situation if you are running late. Kids who have experienced neglect may be extra sensitive in these moments. It may remind them of a time they were forgotten about or left somewhere.
