I stood in front of the iconic Melbourne Magistrates Court, a grand building which seemed to be the perfect stage for a moment of reflection prior to heading to the Australian Women in Law Awards, where I was a finalist. A place where many famous criminals had been tried including Ned Kelly in 1880 when it was the Supreme Court. To think that it was only three years after I was born in 1985 that a woman was first woman appointed a Magistrate in the State of Victoria and not until 11 years later
